Croatia: Complete Route from Belgium

The journey from Belgium to Croatia is one of the longest motorway corridors used by Belgian holidaymakers. Depending on the route chosen, you will cross Germany, Austria, Slovenia and possibly Hungary before reaching Croatia.

Vignettes along the route

Germany does not require a vignette for cars on its motorways. Austria requires the ASFINAG vignette. Slovenia requires the DARS vignette if you use Slovenian motorways. Hungary uses the e-vignette system if you take the route via Budapest. Croatia applies a distance-based toll on its motorways.

Choosing the right route

The route via Austria and Slovenia is the most direct for the Dalmatian coast, and it is also the only sensible choice for Istria: the peninsula is reached from southern Slovenia, and going via Hungary means a long detour to the east. The route via Austria and Hungary is only worth it if your destination is Slavonia or eastern Croatia, or if you want to avoid the Slovenian vignette.
